The CPU Rondalla Ensemble posed for a commemorative photo after performing before CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis and international delegates at Casa de España on October 13.

The CPU Rondalla Ensemble proudly showcased Centralian talent and the richness of Filipino musical heritage during two performances held in conjunction with the CHED–SEAMEO RIHED Higher Education Week 2026, which took place in Iloilo City from October 13-16, 2026.

The international gathering brought together education leaders, policymakers, and delegates from across Southeast Asia to promote cooperation and strengthen partnerships in higher education.

On October 13, the ensemble performed at Casa de España in the presence of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis and international delegates representing the SEAMEO RIHED Secretariat and education ministries from Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Lao PDR, Singapore, Thailand, and Timor-Leste. Through their performance, the ensemble introduced international guests to the distinctive sounds of Filipino rondalla music and the country’s rich musical traditions.

The ensemble performed again on October 15 at Casa Real during the Governor’s Night, hosted by Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. in honor of the visiting delegation. The occasion provided another opportunity to showcase Filipino cultural heritage and Centralian artistry before distinguished guests from across the region.

Following its performance at the Governor’s Night hosted by Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. at Casa Real on October 15, the ensemble gathered for a photo opportunity.

Through traditional Filipino melodies and the distinctive sounds of rondalla instruments, the ensemble celebrated the Philippines’ vibrant musical heritage and highlighted the artistic talents of the Centralian community. Their performances offered international guests a meaningful glimpse into Filipino culture and the traditions that continue to shape the country’s national identity.

Beyond musical excellence, these performances demonstrated how music can transcend language barriers and foster appreciation among people from diverse cultural backgrounds. By sharing Filipino musical traditions with international delegates, the CPU Rondalla Ensemble contributed to the cultural exchange that complements regional cooperation and international engagement in higher education.

The ensemble’s participation reflects Central Philippine University’s continuing commitment to cultural preservation, student development, and internationalization. It also underscores the important role of arts and culture in creating opportunities for people-to-people connections, strengthening intercultural understanding, and celebrating the diversity of Southeast Asian communities.

Through performances such as these, CPU continues to bring Filipino musical heritage to the international stage, demonstrating Centralian excellence while contributing to meaningful cultural exchange and regional friendship.
