University Policy on Students with Disabilities

RATIONALE

 

Central Philippine University, a Christian educational institution offering basic education and higher education programs, believes that all persons are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and are equally valued in God’s sight (Galatians 3:28).  Furthermore, it takes to heart the teachings of Jesus Christ on love and compassion and recognizes the inherent dignity of every person, regardless of their abilities or disabilities.

Thus, CPU affirms its responsibility to ensure that all students, including those with disabilities, are afforded equal rights and access to quality academic and campus life.  This is in support of inclusive education and in compliance with Republic Act No. 7277 (the Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities), as amended by RA 9442 and CHED Memorandum Order No. 23, Series of 2000, Republic Act 11650 Series of 2022.

 

POLICY STATEMENT

 

The University upholds the inherent dignity and rights of Students with Disabilities (SWD) and commits to:

  1. for Basic Education, providing reasonable accommodations, modifications, and inclusive support services;
  2. for Higher Education, providing reasonable accommodations and inclusive support services; SWDs will be given the opportunity to audit courses in lieu of earning course credit. Colleges and programs will determine which courses are eligible.
  3. promoting safe, barrier-free, and non-discriminatory learning environments; and,
  4. protecting the rights, privacy, and dignity of all students with disabilities.
