Fifty-five (55) students from the Central Philippine University-College of Hospitality Management (CPU-CHM) served as ushers and usherettes during the CHED–SEAMEO RIHED Higher Education Week 2026, held from October 13 to 15, 2026, at the SotoGrande Hotel in Iloilo City.

Organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and SEAMEO RIHED, the event brought together high-ranking education officials, policymakers, and international delegates from Southeast and East Asia to discuss the future of higher education in the region.

For the 55 CHM students, this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to welcome and assist distinguished international guests and experience firsthand how a major international event is conducted. It allowed them to apply what they have learned in the classroom while developing their confidence, communication skills, teamwork, and professionalism.

More than just an academic experience, the opportunity gave the students a glimpse of what it is like to work in an international setting, where courtesy, cultural awareness, and attention to detail are essential. Meeting and assisting delegates from different countries also allowed them to appreciate the importance of providing warm, respectful, and quality service to people from diverse backgrounds.

Experiences like this are valuable stepping stones for aspiring hospitality professionals. They remind students that learning does not happen only inside the classroom but also through real-life experiences, challenges, and opportunities to serve others.

Through their participation, the CHM students proudly represented Central Philippine University and demonstrated the Centralian values of service, hospitality, and excellence. This memorable experience will hopefully inspire them to pursue their future careers with greater confidence and a deeper appreciation of the hospitality profession.
