Centralian hospitality interns take their first steps into the global hospitality industry as they begin their SIAP deployment at The Murray in Hong Kong.

Central Philippine University’s College of Hospitality Management (CPU-CHM) has deployed its first batch of student interns under the Student Internship Abroad Program (SIAP), marking a significant milestone in the college’s efforts to provide international training opportunities for its students.

Authorized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) through CHED Memorandum Order No. 10, series of 2023, the program provides students with a six-month international internship experience in established hospitality establishments.

The pioneer batch of Centralian interns has been deployed to The Sands Phuket in Thailand and The Murray in Hong Kong, where they will undergo practical training in various hotel operations. They will be assigned to key departments, including Front Office, Food and Beverage, Housekeeping, and Pastry.

Through the program, the interns are expected to gain hands-on experience in international hospitality operations, develop their professional competencies, and enhance their understanding of diverse cultures and global service standards. Their exposure to multicultural work environments will also provide opportunities to apply their academic training in actual industry settings.

Bound for new learning experiences, CPU-CHM interns are set to gain international exposure and strengthen their professional skills at The Sands Phuket in Thailand.

CHED Region VI has also recognized CPU-CHM as one of the top SIAP participants in Western Visayas, reflecting the college’s efforts to strengthen international linkages and expand global learning opportunities for its students.

The official send-off was held at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, attended by the pioneer batch of interns and CHM-SIAP Coordinator Asst. Prof. Ismael Almajar Jr., who accompanied the students and provided guidance as they prepared for their international deployment.

The initiative further strengthens CPU’s commitment to providing globally competitive hospitality education and preparing its students for professional opportunities in the international hospitality industry.
