Second, what is just is what is right, and what is right starts with God. Thirdly, what is inclusive is to follow the perspective of Jesus. He ended his message with the words of Paul found in Galatians 3:28, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” This means that no barrier – be it race, economic class, or gender – should exists but all are in equal footing.

CPU Quality Assurance Center conducts bench-marking activity in Five Academic Institutions.

The Quality Assurance Center with Dr. Anna May Zerrudo, Acting Director and Prof. Sharlene Gotico, Acting Assistant Director, conducted a bench-marking activity in five academic institutions on June 1-7, 2022.

The five institutions that were visited are Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) in Camiling, Tarlac, University of the Cordilleras and St. Louis University in Baguio City, De La Salle University in Dasmariñas, Cavite, and Aklan State University which was also conducting their bench-marking activity in TAU.

These universities excel in different aspects like in university rankings, environment practices, research programs, technology and innovation, and community empowerment. This has helped them improve each other’s strengths by analyzing their best practices.

“This benchmarking activity allowed the personnel of QAC to see how other big universities in Luzon are doing in terms of instruction, accreditation and other areas of quality assurance. The main reason of the CPU QAC personnel in doing the benchmarking activity is to go out of their comfort zones and learn best practices from other academic institutions. It has been a fruitful 7-day benchmarking activities since it also provided CPU an opportunity to develop partnership with other universities and continue doing collaborative activities with them”, said Dr. Zerrudo.

Dr. Zerrudo and Prof. Gotico also met with the other directors of the different institutions namely, Dr. Christine Ferrer, Director of External Linkages and International Affairs, TAU, Dr. Elizabeth Salapong, Director of the Office of Quality Assurance from University of the Cordilleras, Ms. Leonor Amacio, Director of the Herminia D. Torres Quality Assurance Office of the De La Salle University-Dasmariñas and Dr. Mary Grace Carrido, Director of External Affairs and International Linkages.

This bench-marking activity is to exchange best practices in the different areas of school management and ways on how to improve world rankings in ranking publications such as Times Higher Education IMPACT Rankings, World Universities with Real Impact (WURI), etc.

Representatives from the CPU ARUGA and ATI-RTC posed after they signed a MOA.

The CPU Agriculture Retirees Urban Gardening Association (CPU ARUGA) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Agricultural Training Institute – Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC) and the LGU of Sta. Barbara last June 2, 2022 at the latter’s Municipal Hall for the implementation of the proposed 30 Sow Level Swine Multiplier and Technodemo Farm Project. The tripartite MOA signing was participated by members of the CPU ARUGA alumni headed by its President, former DA RFO VI Regional Executive Director Larry P. Nacionales, Hon. Rema B. Somo, Mayor of Sta. Barbara, Iloilo and Dr. Eden DLR Bautista, Center Director of ATI-RTC. Members of CPU ARUGA also witnessed the momentous occasion while being telecast live by the LGU’s Kahilwayan News.

The P10 Million Project is a component of the Department of Agriculture under the Bayanihan II Law passed by Congress and is being implemented under the Department of Agriculture, Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion Program (INSPIRE) which aims to build, restore and recover the breeder base to support the gradual restocking and repopulation of the swine industry.

With the threat of the African Swine Fever (ASF) affecting the Luzon and Mindanao Area, this project is prepositioned to mitigate the effect of this menace if ever it might affect the 2 Billion Peso Swine Industry here in Western Visayas by having a source of ASF free breed to restock the Swine Industry here as this project will survive the effect of the disease as strict Bio-Security measures will be strictly enforced in this project area.

CPU ARUGA, as the project recipient, will also take into account the participation of women as beneficiaries as this project will set aside 30% of its production breeder stocks, castrated male and semen produced in its Artificial Insemination (AI) Lab as repayment for the program for free to selected beneficiaries through the different municipalities close to Sta. Barbara. However, as the host municipality, Sta. Barbara will get 50% of the free stocks from the Swine Farm. That is, after strengthening them into an association and training them prior to receiving the stocks. As stated, women folks will be given priority as they are the 2nd pillar of the family income generation. The breeder stocks will definitely add income to the family as the piglets from these offspring can be sold at a higher price from ordinary piglets coming from offspring of Grand Parents stocks of the Farm. While meat produced from male piglets can command better price being of good quality thin fat and more meat.

The project which is located in Bgy. Talongadian, Sta, Barbara, Iloilo will also cater to students in Agriculture and Agribusiness as the Technodemo Farm will also be a venue for training and technology transfer as this Farm will be the only one in this area that is a tunnel ventilated-type piggery with biogas receptacle so that the refuse during operation will not emit foul odor as compared with the other existing swine projects.

Personnel under the Office of the President took a break from work.

The different departments and offices of Central Philippine University held their summer retreats in different ways and in different venues.

The University President’s Office staff and support personnel had R & R on Friday and Saturday June 3-4, 2022 to realize that long awaited Summer Retreat. The participants assembled in front of the Dr. Rex D. Drilon Building at 6 A.M on Friday. A short prayer before the trip was led by Rev. Cris Amorsolo V. Sian, Senior Pastor, University Church. The CPU service vans and the President’s car then took off for Costa Madranca in San Jose, Antique. The destination was a new beach resort with a hotel that just opened six months ago.

The two and a half-hour travel to Madranca was worth the respite that nature has to give everyone; cool winds, panoramic view of the horizon, clear water and gastronomic foods served. The beachfront is nonetheless conducive to rest and recreation. During night time and early morning hours, it was good to walk or stroll on the sand. Devotionals and prayers were done by groups.

Unmindful of the hot sunny day, the staff enjoyed swimming with the surge of water from the sea. They even got the better by joining a local community event called the “Bancarera” (motorboat race with one sailor controlling the boat), some enjoyed watching from the windows of the hotel were everybody stayed.

Native cuisine and delicacies were served exclusively to the Centralian visitors for lunch. And for dinner- the best of the Antiqueño specialty- with lechon, salads and paella. Coolers and juices were unlimited. The excitement never ended. “Tonight everyone is required during dinner to wear a Hawaiian attire; garlands will be given away to match the outfit” an announcement came from one of the organizers moving around (thanks to the energetic Miss Carmelle Francis Romero, Executive Assistant to the President, who never fails to create surprises for everyone).
The highlight of the evening was a birthday bash for Ma’am Zenaida Tubianosa (CPU BSN 1969 / Batchmate of Ma’am Angel Robles). Other members of batch ’69 were there. Rev. Francis Neil G. Jalando-on, Director, CPU Office of Communications led a prayer of thanksgiving for her, for Dr. Robles and for all the successes. The sumptuous dinner was held down the beach; everyone enjoyed with music, laughter, and as usual, with the videoke challenge. The celebration ended at around 10 in the evening.

Everyone woke up and tastes freshly brewed coffee. We also witnessed the Bancarera and other water competition hosted by Costa Madranca. Before going back to Iloilo, we also visited the San Jose market and bought some dried fish – baringon, danggit, pinakas, tabagak and hipon; we also made some detours for that sweet peanut cake called ‘bandi’ (we don’t forget to bring some home).

On the other hand the Elementary and Kindergarten faculty and staff under Prof. Janet P. Jaco and Prof. Hannah C. Siosan, respectively went on a summer retreat in Boracay last June 2 to 4, 2022 – Thursday to Saturday. Boracay Island is famous for its long white sand beach, international, hub with many resort establishments, hotels and fun (water ski, surfing, boat riding).

A joint devotional was done by both the Kindergarten and Elementary faculty and staff. According to Ms. May M. Guillem (Kindergarten Secretary), “On top of an enjoyable, refreshing summer time, we were nourished spiritually with prayers and Bible study.” Each group held a program separately.

The Registrar’s Office under Miss Charissa June Deocampo also had their summer retreat at Solina Resort in Carles, Iloilo from May 13 to 14. They had program, games, food, and sharing in the devotional.

The Finance Department under Dr. Florence P. Bogacia made a trip for their summer retreat on May 6, at the Telles Resort in Guimaras. The group enjoyed with fun games, water adventure with jet skis, boat rides and swimming; food, fellowship and devotional.

The Office for Student Affairs (OSA) led by Dr. Esther Rose A. Romarate had their summer bonding with a feast at the Vikings ‘Éat -All –You- Can’ Restaurant at SM City. Some support offices under the OSA intend to still have their outing later.

The Junior High School is also scheduled to have their Summer Retreat on June 28 to 30 this month. Some departments will also soon to have their summer break.

We thank God for blessing everyone on their trips, protection and provision for each group during the retreat and fellowship. To our University President, Dr. Teodoro C. Robles, thank you very much for everything that made our activities possible.
