Congratulations to CPU’s Philippine Native Chicken R&D, led by Dr. Jaime C. Cabarles, for being recognized as one of the five winners of the 2026 Presidential Filipinnovation Awards National Competition, highlighting how sustained scientific research can translate into innovative technologies, industry solutions, and real-world impact.

Central Philippine University (CPU) celebrates a significant milestone for research, development, and innovation as technologies arising from its Philippine Native Chicken Research and Development initiatives demonstrate how university-generated knowledge can move beyond research laboratories and publications to create tangible impact in the industry.

The Philippine Native Chicken initiative of Golden Sprout Corp. emerged as one of the five winners of the 2026 Presidential Filipinnovation Awards National Competition, besting a field of 16 finalists nationwide. This recognition highlights the value of sustained scientific research in addressing real challenges confronting the Philippine native chicken industry.

For years, CPU researchers have worked on strengthening the scientific foundation of native chicken production—from breeding and production technologies to feeds, nutrition, health management, and other interventions designed to improve productivity while preserving the unique qualities of Philippine native chicken. These research efforts have helped generate knowledge, technologies, and products that can be translated into practical solutions for raisers, farmers, entrepreneurs, and other industry stakeholders.

What makes this achievement particularly meaningful is the journey from research to utilization. Scientific findings were not intended to remain on paper. Research results became the basis for developing and improving technologies and products that respond to actual production needs. Through continued R&D, validation, refinement, and industry application, scientific innovation has helped create opportunities for more productive and sustainable native chicken enterprises.

This demonstrates the important role of universities such as CPU in the national innovation ecosystem. Research creates knowledge, but its greater value is realized when that knowledge is translated into technologies, products, enterprises, and solutions that reach communities and industries.

For CPU, this achievement also embodies the University’s RDE direction of CREATE – PROTECT – UTILIZE: creating knowledge and technologies through research, protecting valuable intellectual assets, and ultimately facilitating their utilization for economic and societal benefit.
