The CPU Tumandok Dance Company showcases Filipino ethnic dances during its Cultural Exchange Program in Japan.
The Central Philippine University (CPU) Tumandok Dance Company has successfully wrapped up its participation in the Japan Cultural Exchange Program 2026, held from September 18 to 24. The delegation returned home after a week of vibrant cultural immersion, highlighted by stunning performances and meaningful community engagements.
The 15-member delegation was led by Assoc. Prof. Randy Lero, Artistic Director and Adviser of the dance company, alongside Dr. Hermely A. Jalando-on, Director of the Cultural Affairs Office (CAO), and Assoc. Prof. Lesley Joy L. Dignadice, Director of LILAC. The student dancers who showcased Filipino talent included Trixia Nicole A. Amoroso, Alecka Ladee L. Cruzata, Kiana Marie E. Efondo, Matthew Jared A. Fermalan, Dhaniella Arabella G. Gealon, Alex Cyder A. Juditfa, Frex Janel G. Lorca, Dominique Angel Louise C. Mara ñ on, Raine Benedict R. Tormon, Mikka Ella T. Barrido, Belle Cassandra C. Eucariza, and Makhaila P. Vermug.
The program kicked off with the “Hallo Hallo English & Dance” event on September 19 at the Tobu Community Center, where the Tumandok dancers delivered a 30-minute cultural presentation. The delegation also participated in a “Let’s cook tacos” exchange on September 20 at the Ozaki assembly hall. A highlight of the trip was the Host Family Day on September 22, where the students were warmly accommodated by local families, including Mr. Tomohiro Onnji, Mr. Takashi Nishikita, Mr. Hirokazu Sawamoto, Ms. Sayuri Goto, Mr. Toshiya Miyagaki, and Mr. Takanori Okamoto.
The cultural exchange culminated on September 23 with a trip to Wakayama City, where the Tumandok Dance Company performed at thr Wakachika Hiroba Stage, Wakayama Prefecture. The successful event follows the outstanding contributions of Assoc. Prof. Randy Lero, whose exemplary performances significantly strengthened the partnership between CPU and the Hello Friendship Smiles Organization.
