Engr. Christsam Joy S. Jaspe-Santander presents Project CLEAR at the 3rd WURI Global Conference in Germany, highlighting the university’s science-based approach to water resource assessment and community development.
Central Philippine University (CPU) showcased Project CLEAR at the 3rd World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) Global Conference held at the Deggendorf Institute of Technology in Deggendorf, Germany, on September 23–25, 2026. The university shared the initiative with representatives of higher education institutions from around the world.
Project CLEAR (Coastal Localities’ Evaluation and Assessment of Resources) ranked 38th among the top 100 programs in the A5: Crisis Management category of the WURI 2026 rankings. The project was initiated by the faculty of CPU’s Department of Chemical Engineering under the leadership of Dr. Dahlia H. Pescos. It was presented at the conference by Engr. Christsam Joy S. Jaspe-Santander, a faculty member of the department.
The project helped coastal communities in Oton, Iloilo, better understand the quality and safety of the water they use. The team located communal wells and tested water samples. The results provided residents and the local government with information to guide decisions on water treatment and the protection of their water sources. This initial work laid the groundwork for the project’s next stages in supporting efforts to address local water challenges through science and community engagement.

The presentation received positive feedback from conference participants. The conference also provided opportunities to connect with other universities and explore possible collaborations. Presentations from other institutions helped identify ways to document and present CPU’s existing initiatives for future WURI submissions.
Aside from Project CLEAR, three other CPU programs were recognized in the 2026 WURI rankings. “APPROTECH: Adaptive Techno-Transfer for Smallholder Agri-Operations” ranked 48th in Financial Impact-Driven Technology Transfer. “CPU Wind Tunnel: Impetus to Heightened Regional Wind Energy Research and Development” ranked 71st in Infrastructure/Technology. “Hybrid Wind–Solar Energy System” ranked 72nd in Industrial Application.
