CPU scholars honored among Iloilo City’s 75 USWAG Latin honorees

Central Philippine University (CPU) was represented by Pastor Alfred “Palf” C. Morales, Director of the Student Development and Programs (SDP) Office, during the USWAG Scholarship Parangal held on September 3, 2026, at the Ker & Co. Ltd. Building in Iloilo City.

The recognition ceremony honored 75 USWAG scholars who graduated with Latin honors, including one Summa Cum Laude, 33 Magna Cum Laude, and 41 Cum Laude awardees.

Among them were nine (9) graduates of CPU, with Jaeniefehr Lhouise D. Murugathas leading the roster as the sole Summa Cum Laude awardee. Murugathas completed her Bachelor of Science in Medical Biology.

Other CPU USWAG scholars recognized with Latin honors were Skye Mae M. Hipolito, Shaila Maecca V. Yee, Joanna Grace P. Berniguel, Jenica Marie L. Funtanilla, Janelle Cezanne A. Gabayeran, Mary Deniela J. Herida, Maria Catiana Rosa C. Moniño, and Maria Raina C. Seloterio.

In his message during the ceremony, Morales highlighted the impact of the USWAG Scholarship on CPU scholars, particularly in helping ease the financial burden of pursuing higher education. “The USWAG Scholarship had a great impact in the lives of the USWAG Scholars who are studying or have graduated from CPU which lessen the burden of their school expenses,” Morales said.

He also recognized the Iloilo City Government for investing in the aspirations of young Ilonggos through the scholarship program. “Through USWAG Scholarship Program, it is a great reminder that there are people and institutions like the Iloilo City Government that are open to invest in the dreams of young Ilonggos,” he added.

Morales said the program helps scholars become better versions of themselves and better Ilonggo citizens who can eventually give back to their communities.

Drawing from his Christian faith, Morales encouraged the scholars to find inspiration in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” He explained that the verse reminds scholars to remain positive, take action, and believe in what is possible through Christ, even when faced with seemingly impossible challenges.

He congratulated the CPU USWAG scholars recognized during this year’s ceremony and concluded his message by giving glory to God for their achievements.

The recognition underscores the contribution of the USWAG Scholarship Program in supporting Ilonggo students through their college education and celebrating their academic achievements.
