Congratulations, Dr. Jaime C. Cabarles Jr. and the CPU Philippine Native Chicken Research and Development Program team, on this well-deserved national recognition! Your dedication to research and innovation continues to make a meaningful difference for our agricultural communities and brings pride to the CPU community.

Central Philippine University (CPU) Philippine Native Chicken Research and Development Program, led by Dr. Jaime C. Cabarles Jr., Dean of the College of Agriculture, Resources, and Environmental Sciences (CARES) and Program Leader of the said program, won one of five 2026 Presidential Filipinnovation Awards during the National Awarding Ceremony on September 3, 2026, at the Crowne Plaza Galleria in Ortigas City, Quezon City.

The CPU entry, presented through Golden Sprout Corp. as “Philippine Native Chicken helping the industry through scientific innovations,” was selected from 16 finalists nationwide. The award recognizes innovations for their alignment with the 10 priority areas of the National Innovation Agenda and Strategy Document (NIASD) 2023–2032.

Dr. Cabarles’ research, technical work, and leadership have contributed to the advancement of native chicken production and to CARES’ agricultural research and innovation initiatives. Under his leadership, the program has pursued work in breeding, production technologies, feeds and nutrition, health management, and other interventions aimed at improving productivity while maintaining the distinct qualities of Philippine native chicken.

The program has also worked to translate research findings into technologies and products with potential applications for farmers, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders in the native chicken industry.

The entries were evaluated based on innovativeness; sustainability, scalability, and marketability; and potential impact and relevance, regardless of industry or technical focus.

The Presidential Filipinnovation Awards is one of the National Innovation Council’s flagship programs established under Executive Order No. 99, series of 2025, to showcase Filipino ingenuity, promote innovation-driven entrepreneurship, and support promising innovations toward sustainable market adoption.

The recognition highlights CPU’s continuing efforts to advance agricultural research and develop science-based innovations that can contribute to the growth of the Philippine native chicken industry.
