Central Philippine University (CPU) joins the 12th Annual Balik Scientist Program Convention of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) today, October 29, 2026, at The Manila Hotel, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening research through scientific collaboration and the engagement of Filipino experts from abroad.

Representing the University are CPU President Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy, Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension Dr. Aries Roda D. Romallosa, and CPU’s medium-term Balik Scientist, Dr. Jebie A. Balagosa.

With the theme “Balik Agham: Siyensiyang Pandaigdig, Para sa Bayan,” the convention highlights the contributions of returning Filipino scientists to advancing research, developing local capabilities, and translating scientific knowledge into practical solutions. The gathering features innovations and opportunities for knowledge exchange across agriculture, health, industry, energy, and emerging technologies.

For CPU, participation underscores the importance of connecting international expertise with the needs of its faculty, students, and partner communities. The convention provides an opportunity to engage with scientists, fellow host institutions, and DOST partners, while exploring collaborations that can support the University’s research, development, and extension initiatives.

Dr. Balagosa’s continuing engagement at CPU demonstrates how the Balik Scientist Program can help build lasting research capacity. Now on his second engagement with the University, he supports geotechnical research, laboratory development, faculty collaboration, and the mentoring of students and young researchers. His work emphasizes sustaining these capabilities and connecting laboratory research with local engineering and sustainability concerns.

The presence of President Dagohoy and VPRDE Romallosa alongside Dr. Balagosa reflects CPU’s institutional support for scientific exchange and research partnerships. Such engagements help create opportunities for hands-on learning, stronger research teams, and the development of studies that respond to community needs.

Through its participation, CPU affirms its commitment to bringing global scientific knowledge closer to the communities it serves—advancing research that develops people, strengthens institutions, and contributes to national development.
