Central Philippine University (CPU), through the Office of the Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension (OVPRDE), the University Research Center (URC), and the College of Computer Studies (CCS), in partnership with X LIPAD Solutions Inc. under De La Salle University’s Center for Sustainable Development Research, conducted the Drone Comprehensive Education and Research Development Training on September 4 and 5, 2026, at J7 Hotel, Jalandoni Extension, Brgy. Bolilao, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
The two-day training was attended by selected faculty and staff members from the College of Engineering (COE) and the College of Computer Studies (CCS), with the deans of both colleges also present during the training.
On the first day, participants were introduced to the fundamental concepts and applications of drone technology. The sessions covered drone safety, drone technology, and the use of the Ground Control Station (GCS).

Day 2: Participants gain hands on experience in drone operations
On the second day, participants engaged in hands on activities focused on quadcopter assembly and calibration, bench testing, first flight instructions, flight modes, Return to Launch (RTL) flight, and waypoint programming.
The practical sessions enabled participants to apply their knowledge, develop essential skills in drone operations, and explore the potential applications of drone technology in research, innovation, and academic activities.
Participants take part in an actual drone demonstration, applying the skills and techniques introduced during the training.
Notably, the said training is part of the WEAVE Program of the OVPRDE, CPU’s institutional framework for strengthening faculty capacity, research systems, and innovation outcomes.
Serving as resource speakers for the two-day training were representatives from X-LiPAD Solutions Inc.: Dr. Alvin Y. Chua, President; Dr. Edwin Sybingco, Director; Engr. Marc Francis Q. Say, Consultant; and Engr. Niño Rigo Emil G. Lim, Technical Specialist.
The training provided participants with practical knowledge and skills that can support the University’s efforts to integrate drone technology into research, development, extension, and academic initiatives, while creating opportunities for further innovation and collaboration.
