Participants of the Build Beyond: Move Smart Contract Code Camp engage in hands-on blockchain and Web3 development activities, gaining practical experience in smart contract programming through the Sui ecosystem on May 16, 2026.
The Centralian Developer Group (CDG), in partnership with DEVCON Iloilo and powered by Sui, successfully conducted the Build Beyond: Move Smart Contract Code Camp on May 16, 2026, at MTCL 5 and MTCL 6 of the Mary Thomas Building, Central Philippine University.
The event brought together third-year students from the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Bachelor of Science in Information Technology programs of the College of Computer Studies for an immersive introduction to blockchain technology, smart contract development, and the rapidly evolving Web3 ecosystem.
The program formally opened with an introductory session led by Jenny Grecia, Vice President for Campus Programs of DEVCON. In her presentation, she introduced participants to DEVCON’s mission of nurturing and empowering the Philippine developer community while also providing an overview of the Sui blockchain ecosystem. Her discussion highlighted the growing opportunities within Web3 development and encouraged students to explore innovative technologies that are shaping the future of the industry.
Following the opening session, participants engaged in a comprehensive workshop facilitated by DEVCON mentors and technical facilitators, led primarily by Jose Arron Franz Suoberon and John Rofer Casio. The workshop focused on introducing students to the fundamentals of blockchain development, allowing them to gain firsthand experience in building and understanding smart contracts.
Throughout the day, participants explored key concepts related to decentralized systems, blockchain architecture, and Web3 application development. Through guided exercises and collaborative coding activities, students learned how smart contracts function within the Sui ecosystem and how decentralized applications can be developed to address real-world challenges. The hands-on format encouraged active participation and provided students with valuable practical experience beyond theoretical classroom discussions.
As the workshop concluded, participants left with a stronger foundation in blockchain technology, smart contract development, and Web3 innovation. By working directly with modern blockchain development tools and receiving guidance from experienced mentors, students were able to strengthen their problem-solving abilities, enhance their coding proficiency, and gain confidence in exploring emerging technologies.
Through the successful implementation of the Build Beyond: Move Smart Contract Code Camp, the Centralian Developer Group, DEVCON Iloilo, and Sui reaffirmed their commitment to empowering the next generation of developers. By providing students with access to industry expertise, emerging technologies, and hands-on learning experiences, the event served as a valuable platform for innovation, professional growth, and technological advancement within the academic community.
