Central Philippine University Research Center (URC) in collaboration with the Review and Continuing Education and Consultancy Center (RCECC) conducted a training on Patent Searching and Drafting on February 26, 2021 via Zoom Conference. It was attended by 45 participants coming from different departments and colleges of the University.

The program started at 9:00AM with an opening prayer by Rev. Francis Neil G. Jalando-on, Director, CPU Office of Communications followed by the Pambansang Awit. Vice President for Academic Affairs Irving Domingo L. Rio delivered his Welcome Remarks.

Director of University Research Center and Resource Speaker, Dr. Mary O’ Penetrante presented the Training Objectives and Expected Outcomes Training Flow. Penetrante said that the main objective of the Training is to capacitate the faculty researchers in patent searching and patent drafting. She encouraged participants to demonstrate the ability to discuss patents by concepts and processes; search for patent information from various databases.

Intellectual Property she said, “plays an important role in our culture and economy by driving innovation, protecting consumers, and supporting everything from music, cinema, and sports to health, tech, trade and more.”

She added that “Part of Central Philippine University’s commitment to the government is to help in promoting creative, innovative research products.” During the first session, Penetrante made the introduction on Patent, Patent Search and Patent Databases.

Dr. Ananias C. Sabijon, Jr., Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence, was the moderator during the Question and Answer portion. Part of Session 1 was a Workshop on Conducting State-of-the-Art Search with Dr. Penetrante.

The workshop continued at 1:00PM after the Lunch Break.

There was a feedback session before the training ended. Dr. Lenny Rose P. Mucho presented a Certificate of Appreciation to the Speaker. The program ended at 4:00 PM with a closing prayer by Pastor Alfred C. Morales, Coordinator Student Recruitment Office.
