Before the first semester 2020-2021 begins, Engr. Bernie C. Cangrejo, Department Chair, Packaging Engineering has prepared ‘something special’ for the students whom he calls “Packers.” They are among the fortunate students who have chosen to enroll in the College of Engineering’s Bachelor of Science in Packaging Engineering.

The special event is fully loaded with dynamic fun. Students will be treated to a review of past events in the Department Packaging Engineering – and on to the acquaintance of old and new students online- on August 28, 2020 at 6:30 PM via Google Meet.

Cangrejo advised the students to check out beforehand the professional subjects offered for Bachelor of Science in Packaging Engineering, for First Semester 2020-2021 – in addition to the general education and engineering subjects offered.

He reiterated the Principle of Packaging Engineering, which is to “Look outside of the Box; Think within the Box; Think about the Box.” “The principle is a guide for students towards their achievement in design, process and production. Packaging Engineering, however, is not confined to products only. It involves entrepreneurship, marketing, and advertising of the product. Students will have a lot to choose from what activities the course requires,” Cangrejo said.

He added that “In this changing time, we go for a shift in the learning process, such that we have to learn and live with the standard virtual classroom prescribed by the University and the virtual classroom using the Canvas learning management system.”

Asked about how laboratory experiments and projects are implemented to be learned by the students online, Cangrejo said,” Every laboratory activity such as research or demonstration of packaging will be done with video coverage. Every virtual participant could observe and take note of the process conducted by the teacher or an assigned demonstrator at the laboratory.”

The Bachelor of Science in Packaging Engineering is offered only at Central Philippine University. Many of its graduates are employed in big corporations here in the Philippines and abroad.
