Beneficiaries of the Hakot Books program in Brgy. Binon-an Batad, Iloilo had a ‘picture-taking’ with CPU Librarians and faculty.

The Henry Luce III Library conducted an outreach program in Binon-an Elementary School in the Municipality of Batad, Iloilo on July 14, 2023. The “Hakot Book Program” aimed to help the school improve their library through the donation of learning resources and bookshelves. Aside from donating library materials, CPU librarians also helped organize the resources in their new library.

The Library also conducted a community outreach program in cooperation with the American Corner Iloilo in Barangay Binon-an last year. During last year’s visit, it came to the librarians’ attention that there was a need to establish a library in Binon-an Elementary School with complete resources for children’s study and research needs. The school was affected by Typhoon Yolanda in 2013.

Four large bookshelves formerly used in the Henry Luce III Library were donated.

The Library also called for donations of pre-loved clothing, books, toys, bags, and other useful items for the community. CPU faculty, students, alumni, and others donated their pre-loved items for the donation drive.

During the turn-over of donations, librarians conducted story-telling and games for the kids. Food and snacks were also given to the students and teachers.

The librarians and staff were welcomed by Mrs. Lea H. Yap, the School Principal, and Brgy, Kagawad Rommel A. Adorador, on behalf of Hon. Glenn Isaac, Barangay Captain.
