The officers of Philippine Society for Microbiology, Inc. –Visayas during its 25th Annual Meeting and Regional Scientific Convention at Punta Villa Resort, Arevalo, Iloilo City on October 4-5, 2019.
Dr. Stella G. Fernandez, Dean, College of Arts and Sciences and Dr. Nicolas G. Guanzon, Jr., Chairperson of the Life Sciences Department were elected as Vice- President and Press Relations Officer respectively of the Philippine Society for Microbiology, Inc. –Visayas during its 25th Annual Meeting and Regional Scientific Convention at Punta Villa Resort, Arevalo, Iloilo City on October 4-5, 2019.
“Advancement and Innovations in the New Era of Microbiology Research” was the theme for this year’s convention. Activities included a presentation of the updates and discussion on the developments and trends in different fields of Microbiology such as education, food, industry, aquatic, medical, agriculture, and environmental by the invited scientists from the National PSM Chapter and participants. These addressed many aspects of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with innovative projects dealing and creating various possibilities and opportunities for a sustainable future of the world through Microbiology. There were also oral and poster research competition for high school, undergraduate, and professionals.
Before being elected as Vice President, Dr. Fernandez was previously the Secretary, and Dr. Guanzon was the Representative for the Agriculture Division of PSM-Visayas. They were elected as officers for the year 2019-2010.
