Iloilo’s pride: CPU Golden Lions dominated the 2024 National PRISAA.

Comprising most of the athletes representing Western Visayas, the Central Philippine University (CPU) Golden Lions led Region VI to numerous victories during the 2024 National PRISAA held in Legazpi City, Albay, from July 20-26, 2024.

Out of the 656 delegates from Western Visayas who competed in the National PRISAA, including delegation officials, a formidable contingent of 279 athletes and coaches represented the CPU Golden Lions. Highlighting Iloilo’s dominance, the CPU Softball team clinched their tenth consecutive championship title, a historic feat that underscores their unparalleled reign in collegiate sports.

For the tertiary level, the Golden Lions women’s chess, women’s karatedo, men’s taekwondo, women’s taekwondo, men’s table tennis team, table tennis men’s singles, women’s table tennis doubles all clinched gold medals in the PRISAA.

During the secondary level, the boys’ athletics, girls’ badminton, girls’ chess, girls’ karatedo, boys’ table tennis, girls’ table tennis, boys’ swimming, and girls’ swimming teams also brought gold for WVPRISAA.

Region VII was declared the overall champion with 257 medals (119 gold medals, 73 silver medals, and 65 bronze medals). Region VI came in second with 172 medals (79 gold medals, 38 silver medals, and 55 bronze medals). This year marks the separation of the Negros Occidental team from Western Visayas as they formed the Negros Island Region team.
