Congratulations, CPU-CHM’s Cake Decorating Team for winning in the 3rd COHREP Panay Regional Skills Olympics 2024.
The Cake Decorating Team from Central Philippine University, Dr. Lucio C. Tan, College of Hospitality Management, who emerged as CHAMPION out of seven esteemed universities from both Panay and Guimaras Islands in the 3rd COHREP Panay Regional Skills Olympics 2024, held at Robinson’s Place in Iloilo City, last March 22, 2024.
The third-year students from the Dr. Lucio C. Tan College of Hospitality Management at Central Philippine University, Kimberly P. Nares and Eunice Ausin, achieved a remarkable victory by emerging as the CHAMPION in the On-the-Spot Cake Decorating Competition at the 3rd COHREP Panay Regional Skills Olympics. Their winning piece was inspired by an architectural theme, a choice that set a high bar for creativity and skill.
Selecting the theme was no easy feat for Nares and Ausin, who spent weeks in rigorous preparation. The duo initially struggled to narrow down their options from the plethora of architectural marvels around the world. They needed a design that was not only visually stunning but also feasible to replicate in cake form. After much deliberation and numerous design iterations, they settled on the “Museum of the Future” in Dubai, UAE. This building’s distinctive torus shape and its poetic window engravings about the future presented a unique and challenging canvas for their cake.
The journey to perfect their masterpiece involved three weeks of intense practice sessions. Each day was a blend of trial and error as they refined their techniques and adjusted their designs. The complexity of replicating the Museum of the Future required meticulous attention to detail and critical thinking, as they strived to accurately capture its essence in their cake. Their dedication and hard work paid off, culminating in a flawless final presentation that impressed the judges and secured their victory.
An open letter from Kimberly Nares and Eunice Ausin to their mentors, coaches, and the faculty of CPU-CHM:
