CPU Chess Team triumphs at CHED Region 6 Online Tournament.

Central Philippine University (CPU) chess players cemented their regional dominance after conquering the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region 6 Online Chess Tournament 2024 held on May 20, 2024.

Hubert Canto, a third-year College of Law student from CPU, strategically maneuvered his way to victory in the men’s category. He outsmarted John Joseph Fuentes and Jerico Mabuyao, both from Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U).

Meanwhile, Hannah Rose Chavez Tipan, a BS Psychology student from CPU, replicated the feat in the women’s division. Tipan displayed exceptional skills throughout the tournament, ultimately defeating Jamie Singson and Janna Remus from the University of St. La Salle Bacolod.

The online tournament, organized by CHED Region 6, gathered a total of 137 participants from various schools across Western Visayas. CPU’s exceptional performance solidified their reputation as a powerhouse in regional chess competitions.
