Dr. Stella Guartero-Fernandez, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and a faculty member of the Life Sciences Department, participated in the recently concluded 10th National Conference on the Standardization of Microbeam Analysis Technology, and the 5th National (Chinese) Forum on Maintenance, Management, and Teaching of Electron Microscope in Kaifeng, Henan, China. The conferences were held at the Sheraton Hotel, and Henan Chemical Technician College, Kaifeng, Henan, China on April 12- 15, 2024. Experts were invited to give reports on the conference, which mainly involved standardization of microbeam analysis technology, maintenance and laboratory management of electron microscopy, experimental technology education and teaching, and open sharing of instruments. Participants were warmly welcomed from all over China to participate in the event in Kaifeng, the ancient capital of the Eight Dynasties.

Dr. Fernandez was personally invited by Mr. Zang Khang, who was the Deputy-Secretary General of the conference. She took the opportunity to explore the Museum of Electron Microscope at Henan Chemical Technician College, where various models of electron microscopes were displayed alongside documents detailing the work of microscope technicians. Dr. Fernandez also negotiated for possible international partnerships and new collaborations for student/professor exchange programs to enhance experiences in science laboratories. The office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs is now preparing the MOA with the company of Mr. Khang.

The convention was organized by the Kaifeng Municipal People’s Government, Henan University, and Henan Chemical Technician College.
