Jed Matthew Mamosto, a BSSE-3 student, discussed “Designing Spaces for People” as a strategy to address SDGs 10 and 11.

Jed Matthew Mamosto and Mykiell Deoven Pagayonan, CPU BSSE-3 students, recently shared their knowledge and expertise on leveraging technology for sustainable development with the youth of Alimodian, Iloilo. The duo was invited as guest speakers during the Linggo ng Kabataan 2024 last August 13, 2024.

Representing the Google Developer Student Clubs CPU Chapter (GDSC-CPU), Mamosto and Pagayonan, together with fellow BSSE-3 student Teddie John Rajeev and Software Engineering Faculty and GDSC-CPU Club Adviser Anfernee Joan Ng, presented on the theme “From Clicks to Progress: Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development.”

Mamosto and Pagayonan emphasized the importance of “Designing Spaces for People” as a key approach to addressing SDG10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). They also facilitated an ideathon that encouraged participants to brainstorm solutions to various UN SDGs using “Tech for Good.”

When asked about their initial reactions to being chosen as guest speakers, Mamosto expressed both honor and pressure. “I was quite honored and privileged to be able to share my knowledge and insights to my fellow youths,” he said. “However, I also felt pressured as to what I could share to them.” Pagayonan, on the other hand, saw the invitation as a great opportunity to inspire young minds. “I wanted to talk about how we in GDSC CPU and as Software Engineering Students have been creating projects for the UN SDGs, and hopefully see them do the same in the future,” she shared.

Both students encouraged their fellow Centralians to seize opportunities for growth and impact. Mamosto stressed the importance of experience and knowledge in shaping one’s future, while Pagayonan emphasized the value of tapping into the university’s resources for student initiatives.
The GDSC-CPU team also extended their gratitude to Sophia Alonday, BSPKGE-3, who was part of the organizing committee from Alimodian.

Through their participation in Linggo ng Kabataan 2024, Mamosto, Pagayonan, and the GDSC-CPU team have demonstrated the power of youth in driving positive change and contributing to a sustainable future.
