On October 25, 2024, the Association of Political Science and Public Administration Students – CPU (APPS-CPU), representing Iloilo Province, clinched the 1st runner-up spot in the recently concluded DILG VI – 2024 Local Governance (LG) Quiz held at Robinson’s Place Pavia facilitated by DILG Region VI.

This year’s edition included various categories ranging from students, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) personnel, and Local Government Units (LGU) officials. The team from Central Philippine University, composed of Rainne Ellyxia Pineda, Dorothy Erika Jean Doyo, and Rochelle Gallega, represented Iloilo Province.

Dr. Renia Dela Peña, program head and adviser of APPS-CPU, expressed her enthusiasm for the team’s accomplishment, saying, “I am incredibly proud that our students in the program excel not only inside the campus as well as outside of the CPU community. Bringing honor and pride to the university by joining in competitions such as the Local Governance (LG) Quiz initiated by DILG-Iloilo Province and being hailed as champions at the provincial level and securing the 1st runner-up in the regional competition is an amazing achievement everyone could be proud of.”

It is also worth noting that on October 8, 2024, the CPU team, composed of Frederick Evans Jardenil, Rameses John Margas, Dorothy Erika Jean Doyo, Rochelle Gallega, and Rainne Ellyxia Pineda, won the championship at the provincial level organized by the DILG Iloilo Province through its Iloilo Provincial Local Governance Resource Center.

“Their winning is a testament to their hard work, dedication, teamwork, and continuous passion for learning, given the limited time before the competition. May they continue to set an example for those who would like to follow their path. Again, my congratulations to the CPU-LG Quiz Team,” Dr. Dela Peña added.

Team Iloilo City bagged the first-place title, represented by students from West Visayas State University, followed by Iloilo Province, represented by students from Central Philippine University, and third place was awarded to students from the University of St. La Salle, representing Negros Occidental.

“The DILG Region 6 — including the Regional, Provincial, HUC and Field Offices — extends its thanks to all our partner institutions, sponsors, attendees, participants, awardees and each and every individual and organization who helped make the LGC Month 2024 celebration a success,” DILG Region 6 Western Visayas wrote on their official Facebook page.

According to DILG Region 6 Western Visayas, the Local Governance (LG) Quiz is an advocacy mechanism to highlight DILG PPAs, provisions of the Local Government Code, and local governance policies and trends in the community. It was conceptualized to create a positive and interactive learning experience where LGUs and other participants can test their knowledge and skills in local governance while enhancing their competencies.
