This year’s Agri-Fair focuses on the backyard as an alternative agricultural space to grow vegetables outside of the farm.

“Development of Backyard Gardening for Self-sufficiency” was chosen to be this year’s theme for the 9th DA-CPU Regional Agrifair. The theme was decided upon by members of the Agrifair committee headed by Joel H. Somosierra who met on September 11, Wednesday at the Dr. Rex D. Drilon Conference Hall to pave the way for the much-expected event in November.

The theme speaks of the backyard as an alternative agricultural space to grow vegetables outside of the farm. The apparent insufficiency in food production as a result of climate change has given impetus to backyard gardening as a healthy option to produce more food for the home.

The DA-CPU Agrifair has emphasized organic agriculture as its thrust for healthy food production and self-sufficiency. Municipalities in support of the annual DA-CPU Agrifair bring organic food and products to the exhibits at Central Philippine University’s Alumni Promenade and Concert Park.

There is a lot to bring home from the Agri-bazaar. Fruits, vegetables, and cottage industry products are brought in abundance by participating agencies and municipalities.

The DA-CPU Agrifair will offer seminars during the event. Technical seminars will be conducted by experts in agriculture and food production.
