The CPU Psychological Society and the Philippine Society of Software Engineers successfully conducted a Leadership Training Seminar entitled, ‘The NeuroCode: Reprogramming Pathways Toward Effective Leadership,’ highlighting three aspects of leadership such as problem-solving, time management, and communication.
The NeuroCode: Reprogramming Pathways Toward Effective Leadership is a whole-day leadership training seminar which gathered 60 officers and committee members from the CPU Psychological Society (CPU Psych Soc) and Philippine Society of Software Engineers (PSSE), designed to equip student leaders with essential leadership competencies, aimed to cultivate effective decision-making, communication, and teamwork through structured discussions and interactive activities.
The program formally commenced in the morning with registration proper, followed by preliminaries and opening remarks delivered by Regine Therese Barte, President of the Philippine Society of Software Engineers (PSSE). An icebreaker activity followed, allowing participants to build rapport and create a positive learning environment. This was succeeded by the introduction of the first speaker, Sen. Sam Isaac Alog, CPUR 21st Parliament Senator, who delivered a session on Decision-Making and Problem Solving. The talk highlighted the critical role of analytical thinking and sound judgment in leadership, guiding participants on how to assess situations, weigh possible outcomes, and make informed decisions, especially in challenging and high-pressure scenarios. The session encouraged participants to view problems as opportunities for growth and innovation.
The next session, delivered by Leandrae Edriann Agagas, President of the CPU Psychological Society, focused on Time Management and Delegation, which emphasized the importance of prioritization, organization, and efficiency in leadership roles. The discussion underscored how effective time management helps leaders balance responsibilities while delegation fosters trust and empowers team members. Participants were reminded that leadership is not about doing everything alone, but about maximizing the strengths of the entire team to achieve collective goals.
The morning session concluded with an open forum, allowing participants to ask questions, share insights, and reflect on the lessons learned. Certificates were then awarded to the speakers in recognition of their valuable contributions. The participants proceeded to a lunch break before resuming the afternoon activities.
The afternoon session began with registration proper and an icebreaker to re-energize the participants. The speaker emphasized that effective leadership is deeply rooted in communication that unites individuals toward a shared vision.
An open forum followed the third lecture, allowing participants to engage further with the speaker and clarify key points. Certificates were then awarded, after which the program transitioned into team-building activities and a raffle. The team-building activities include the minefield game, case file game, paper tower game, action relay, and building a pyramid game. These activities were chosen to test the problem-solving, time management, and communication skills of every participant.
The seminar concluded with the awarding of certificates, followed by the closing remarks delivered by Christia Q. Baylon, Vice President External of the CPU Psychological Society.
Overall, the leadership training seminar served as a meaningful platform for developing skills in effectively managing one’s time, solving a problem, and in communicating. Central Philippine University (CPU), in partnership with the Central Philippine University Alumni Association, Inc. (CPUAAI), successfully held the 2025 Festival of Lights and Music On-the-Spot Painting Contest, showcasing the creativity and artistic talents of the CPU community.
The on-the-spot painting competition took place on December 16, 2025, at the CPU Pani Hall and gathered a total of eight participants composed of bona fide students, faculty members, and staff of the University. The contest served as a platform for artists to visually interpret themes that reflected the Christian spirit, core values, and the academic, cultural, and historical identity of Central Philippine University.
After careful deliberation, the winners were formally recognized during the awarding ceremony held on January 6, 2026, at the CPU Alumni Affairs Office, where they received cash prizes and certificates of recognition.
The winners of the 2025 Festival of Lights and Music On-the-Spot Painting Contest are as follows:
- 1st Place: Kate Phoebe C. Alfaras (BSDMIA – 4)
- 2nd Place: Hartt Angel C. Alfaras (BSDMIA – 1) and Josh Benedict G. Manejero (BSDMIA – 1)
Emerging as the 1st Place winner, Kate Phoebe C. Alfaras (BSDMIA – 4) presented an artwork that captured the essence of life and memory within the University. In an interview, Alfaras shared that her inspiration stemmed from her personal experiences on campus, particularly the CPU Big Field and the University Church.
Congratulations to the winners of the CPUAAI Festival of Lights On-the-Spot Painting Contest—Kate Phoebe C. Alfaras (1st Place) and Hartt Angel C. Alfaras and Joshua Benedict Manejero (tied for 2nd Place)—as they receive their certificates and cash prizes at the CPU Alumni Affairs Office.
“This painting always comes to mind whenever I pass by the CPU Big Field and the University Church. It represents my personal memories and reflections of what Central Philippine University means to me. These places hold significant moments in my student life, and through this artwork, I wanted to capture the sense of belonging, nostalgia, and identity that I associate with CPU,” she said.
Alfaras also shared that her passion for painting began at an early age, nurtured by strong encouragement from her family.
“I have been inspired to join art contests since elementary school. Painting has always been a passion of mine, and my family has been a strong source of encouragement—especially my father, who also enjoys painting. Their support motivated me to take part in this contest and share my creativity with others,” she added.
When asked about her message to fellow Centralians who aspire to join painting contests, Alfaras encouraged students to take courage and embrace every learning opportunity.
“It doesn’t hurt to try, even when you see others who are very skilled and professional in painting. Instead of being discouraged, take their work as inspiration. Every contest is an opportunity to gain experience, learn something new, and grow as an artist. Never be afraid to start or to stand on your own. If you feel that you lack ability, use that as motivation to learn from every experience—because that is where every artist’s journey begins,” she shared.
Organized as an official CPUAAI event, the competition emphasized originality, faith, and creativity through visual art. Participants were given four hours to complete their artworks using acrylic on canvas, following the contest’s strict guidelines to ensure fairness and authenticity.
In line with the objectives of the contest, twelve exceptional artworks will be selected for inclusion in the CPU 2027 Desk Calendar, which will be released during the CPU Grand Reunion. This initiative not only recognizes artistic excellence but also promotes a deeper appreciation of the University’s heritage while strengthening the connection between alumni and the academic community.
Through this collaborative effort, CPU and CPUAAI continue to uphold their commitment to nurturing creativity, celebrating culture, and preserving the rich identity of Central Philippine University through meaningful and faith-inspired initiatives.

CPU-JHS and six Korean student delegates from Gyerim Middle School, South Korea, along with their teachers, pose for a group photo during the Closing Ceremony at the CPU JHS Library on January 6, 2026.
In a vibrant display of cross-cultural learning and collaboration, Central Philippine University Junior High School (CPU-JHS) and Gyerim Middle School of South Korea held a Closing Ceremony in partnership with the CPU Local and International Linkages and Affiliation Center (CPU LILAC) at the CPU JHS Library. The event marked the successful culmination of meaningful interactions and shared experiences between the two institutions.
The program began on January 5, 2026, with a series of activities that introduced the visiting students to CPU. These included a courtesy call at the CPU JHS Principal’s Office, an orientation session, and a comprehensive campus tour around Central Philippine University, giving the South Korean students a firsthand experience of the university’s environment and culture.
On January 6, students from CPU-JHS and Gyerim Middle School participated in a hands-on Bluetooth Mood Lamp Making activity. The interactive session allowed students to work in small groups to design and assemble their lamps, with each group equipped with at least one Android phone to enable the Bluetooth functions. Notably, the activity had been conducted two years ago but was limited to only two hours, which proved insufficient for completion. This year, the organizers extended the activity to four hours and provided fully prepared kits, ensuring that participants could fully enjoy and complete the project.
The program concluded with a closing message delivered by CPU JHS Principal Assoc. Prof. Charlett B. Dianala, who expressed her gratitude for the partnership with Gyerim Middle School and emphasized the importance of fostering international friendships and cultural understanding through such initiatives.
This collaborative exchange between CPU-JHS and Gyerim Middle School underscores CPU’s continued commitment to strengthening international linkages and providing students with meaningful cross-cultural learning experiences.
