On June 5, 2026, Central Philippine University (CPU), through the University Property Custodian, Grounds Office, and the Community Engagement and Service-Learning Center (CESLC), participated in Brigada Eskwela, the Department of Education’s annual National Schools Maintenance Week. This initiative brings together various school stakeholders, including parents, teachers, community members, private organizations, and volunteers, to prepare schools for the opening of classes.

The University’s participation was in response to a request from Dr. Arlyn C. Gallega, Principal of Alberto Sorongon Sr. Memorial National High School, one of CPU’s partner schools located in Brgy. Macatol, Pototan, Iloilo. In her letter, Dr. Gallega informed the University of the school’s shortage of chairs, tables, and other essential furniture needed to support teaching and learning activities.

To help address these needs, the University Property Custodian and Grounds Office delivered and donated 55 monoblock chairs, 12 plastic chairs, 4 tables, and 3 depository counters to the school. According to the school principal, these donated items will greatly support classroom instruction, provide additional storage for important documents and instructional materials, and contribute to a more conducive learning environment for students and teachers.

Through this initiative, Central Philippine University reaffirms its commitment to supporting quality education and the development of its partner schools. Beyond the donation of school furniture, the University has continuously extended assistance through the establishment of mini-libraries, provision of feeding program materials and school supplies, donation of instructional materials, conduct of teacher training programs, and other support services based on the identified needs of its partner communities and schools.
