Central Philippine University’s National Service Training Program (NSTP) conducted a mangrove planting and coastal clean-up drive at 5:00 a.m. on April 18, 2026, along Sunset Boulevard, Iloilo City.
The activity, held in partnership with the Iloilo City Environment and Natural Resources Office, carried the theme “Protecting Nature, Preserving Life” and the tagline, “Together, we can make a difference for our environment.”
A site inspection was conducted on April 11, 2026, to assess the area’s suitability for mangrove planting and to ensure proper implementation of the project.
The inspection and planting activities were carried out with the assistance of personnel from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), including Engr. Ian John Sanco, Environmental Management Specialist I; Narciso Acebuque III, Administrative Aide III; and Bella Marie Roga, Metro Aide II. Their support provided technical guidance and ensured adherence to proper mangrove planting procedures.
NSTP instructors who facilitated the activity included Jaruis John P. Adaya, Leonance E. Cataluña, Mariana T. Erdao, Chilou P. Batoon, Melanie G. Hermano, and Emcy J. Sanchez.
NSTP-Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) students participated in planting mangrove propagules and conducting a coastal clean-up in designated areas. The initiative aimed to raise awareness of the role of mangroves in preventing coastal erosion, supporting marine biodiversity, and mitigating the effects of climate change.
The activity is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental stewardship and community engagement through sustainable programs.
