CPU Faculty Member shares Research on Taal Volcano Air Quality at International Conference
Asst. Prof. Cherrylyn M. Macairan of the Department of Life Sciences presents her research on vog air quality and volcanic unrest at Taal Volcano during the 13th Annual International Conference on Environmental Science held at the University of San Carlos, Cebu City, on June 3, 2026.

Asst. Prof. Cherrylyn M. Macairan of the Department of Life Sciences proudly represented the institution at the 13th Annual International Conference on Environmental Science, held at the University of San Carlos, Cebu City, on June 3, 2026.

She delivered an oral presentation of her research titled “Characterizing Vog Air Quality in Relation to Volcanic Unrest at Taal Volcano: Focus on Sulfur Dioxide Emissions, Seismicity, and Particulate Matter.” Her study highlights the critical links between volcanic activity and air quality, offering valuable insights that can strengthen Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) strategies especially for communities living near active volcanoes.

Aligned with this year’s inspiring theme, “Yoyong sa Pagbangon: Pursuing Sustainable Development through Education, Technology, and Community Engagement,” Asst. Prof. Macairan’s work underscores the power of science, innovation, and collaboration in building resilient and sustainable communities.
