Last February 9, 2024, the Central Philippine University Republic Ministry of External Affairs, led by Senator Ralph Belle D. Gonzales, conducted an outreach program at Ulayan Elementary School in Brgy. Ulayan, Calinog, Iloilo. The initiative aimed to empower young minds through educational materials, engaging activities, and a commitment to long-term support.

Senator Gonzales, along with other CPUR officials and staff, distributed 115 school supplies to the students, sparking joy and excitement. The program also featured games and snacks, creating a welcoming and interactive environment.

“Witnessing the pure joy on the kids’ faces as we arrived, their smiles lighting up the entire place, was truly memorable. The warm and welcoming vibe from the people there made the event special, creating a sense of community and togetherness that was unforgettable,” Gonzales said.

During the event, the CPUR team engaged in discussions with Barangay Captain Hon. Reinier C. Prior and school faculty to identify other areas needing attention within the community. Concerns such as environmental issues due to proximity to the dumpsite, lack of adequate lighting at night, insufficient school facilities, and challenges with student enrollment zoning were raised.

Gonzales emphasized the program’s long-term vision, highlighting his commitment to returning for health missions and potentially adopting Brgy. Ulayan as a partner community. This ongoing engagement aims to foster trust, collaboration, and lasting positive change.

“Our commitment extends beyond this outreach event. We plan to conduct health missions, deepen engagement, and ensure long-term partnerships with Brgy. Ulayan,” Gonzales said.

Despite challenges like manpower shortages and managing a hectic schedule, the CPUR remained resilient, delivering a successful outreach program. Senator Gonzales assured continued support, with plans to return next month for follow-up visits to assess progress and address challenges. He expressed his desire to replicate this model in other communities and thanked the 19th parliament and his staff for their support.

“I hope that the next parliament will be able to adopt another community. For now, we will be adopting the Brgy. Ulayan for the whole semester,” Gonzales said.

Senator Gonzales encouraged continued collaboration to make a significant impact on the lives of those they serve. He also expressed his gratitude to the supporters and participants.

“To the 19th parliament and my staff, thank you for your unwavering support. Let’s carry this momentum forward as we embark on future endeavors together,” Gonzales said.

The outreach program at Ulayan Elementary School exemplifies the CPUR’s dedication to community development and empowerment, laying the foundation for positive change and inclusive growth in Brgy. Ulayan and beyond.
