The officials showed the signed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Central Philippine University and Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, Inc. for Project AGUBAY (Awareness, Guidance, Unity, Biodiversity, Action, Yield).
Central Philippine University and Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, Inc. signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for Project AGUBAY (Awareness, Guidance, Unity, Biodiversity, Action, Yield) on July 23, 2024, at the BOT Conference Room, Rex D. Drilon Hall.
This initiative marks a collaborative effort to address the pressing issue of waste management within the university and its surrounding local communities. Present during the said signing were Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy, CPU President; Dr. Florence P. Bogacia, CPU Vice President for Finance and Enterprises; Dr. Mary O’ Penetrante, CPU-CCFI Project Lead; Maria Cecilia L. Alcantara, CCFPI President; Ma. Cristina R. Cabalza, CCFPI Finance and Program Manager; Bernard Engada, Coca-Cola Iloilo Plant Manager; Dr. Lorna T. Grande, CPU-CBA Dean; Mr. Casper Laconse, Plant HR Head; Engr. Neil Ravena, Head, General Services Office of Iloilo City; Janis Mae R. Sy, Iloilo City Environment and Resources Office; and Dr. Carmen Hernandez, Chairperson of Business Administration Department.
Project AGUBAY aims to formulate and update the Barangay Ecological Solid Waste Management (BESWM) programs in 152 Iloilo City barangays, establish a database for SWM data management at the barangay and city levels, deploy relevant Barangay Material Recovery System (BMRS) equipment and technology to improve waste segregation, collection, processing, and diversion, and train barangay and city stakeholders in the implementation of the sustainable BESWM program and its policy mechanisms.
The signing of this MOA reflects CPU’s dedication to environmental stewardship and its role in fostering sustainable development within the community. CPU remains committed to setting an example for other educational institutions and contributing to broader environmental conservation efforts.
