Central Philippine University held its last and second week of Virtual Orientation events for College and Senior High School students from August 26-28, 2020.
On Wednesday, August 26 students were given a step-by-step guide in using Canvas, CPU’s official learning management system. Netiquette and proper online class behavior were also discussed. Students were also given an opportunity for a Q&A with Vice-President for Academic Affairs Dr. Irving Rio and Canvas Instructors Engr. Dany Molina (Dean, College of Engineering) and Engr. Gelvie Lagos (faculty, College of Engineering) regarding their concerns about Canvas and the new mode of learning.
University physician Dr. Ma. Carmen Salcedo and licensed Psychometrician Mrs. Florabel Suarez gave talks on COVID-19 Health Tips and Mental Health care, respectively on Thursday, August 27. There was also a presentation of student services and activities available online. There was also an orientation of Guidelines for scholarships and International students. Queries during the open forum were addressed by Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Esther Rose Romarate, Guidance Services Center Director Dr. Raquel Polec-eo, Sports and Athletics Director Mr. Edwin Laru-an, Dr. Ma. Carmen Salcedo, Student Development Programs Director Dr. Margen Java, National Training Service Program and Work-Student Study Program Prof. Annalie Gilongos and Dental Clinic Coordinator Dr. David Deza.
For the last orientation event held on August 28, CPU Republic Officials had a virtual oath-taking ceremony. Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. and Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas gave their message to the student leaders and challenged them to pursue the noble endeavors for the continued development of the community and the general welfare of the Ilonggos and uphold the values and ideals of being outstanding CPU students.
The Central Echo, the official student media of Central Philippine University also presented its online publication for the current semester.
Enrollment for the first semester is extended until September 5.
