Central Philippine University (CPU) gathered its faculty and staff for the annual Faculty and Staff Conference held on August 28, 2024, at the Rose Memorial Auditorium. The theme, “One Central: Embracing Differences and Building Camaraderie,” emphasized the importance of unity amidst diversity for the betterment of the institution.
The morning session opened with a devotional message from Rev. Cris Amorsolo V. Sian, followed by the national anthem and CPU’s Alma Mater Song. University President Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy welcomed the attendees and expressed his delight in attending his first faculty and staff conference. He commended the HRDO and SHS Department for organizing the event and highlighted the importance of the chosen theme.
Following Dr. Dagohoy’s remarks, reports were presented by various university officials:
- Office of the President: Dr. Dagohoy shared his accomplishments and opportunities for the university during his first 10 months in office. These included establishing connections with stakeholders, evaluating academic programs, and solidifying alumni relations.
- Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs: Dr. Irving Domingo L. Rio discussed the university’s focus on QS Asia Ranking with a target of 100 publications in Scopus indexed journals by 2026. Additionally, he announced increased research incentives, programs applying for accreditation, and areas needing improvement, such as faculty qualifications and publications.
- Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs: Esther Rose A. Romarate presented updates regarding student success, including achievements of CPU athletes, changes in OVPSA structure, leadership transitions, and the implementation of a mandatory daily uniform policy starting September 16, 2024.
- Office of the Vice President for Finance & Enterprises: Dr. Florence P. Bogacia discussed updates on insurance coverage, ID cards, and salary disbursement.
- Office of Vice President for Administration: Engr. Dany C. Molina highlighted the importance of maintaining CPU’s listed heritage buildings and upcoming events like the 2024 Bar Examination. He also detailed OVPA service procedures and ongoing projects.
- Human Resource & Development Office (HRDO): Rodel C. Palomar presented the number of faculty and staff, faculty development programs, and staff-related updates.
The afternoon session began with an open forum moderated by Ms. Ella Lee P. Galve, where faculty and staff could raise questions addressed by the university administrators. This was followed by the introduction of 102 newly hired personnel by Ms. Ella Kathrina A. Gutierrez.
The highlight of the afternoon was the Pagdayaw 2024 Quality Awards ceremony in which the CPU Quality Assurance and Accreditation Center recognized various units and programs for their excellence.
The event concluded with a raffle draw, where attendees had the chance to win minor and major prizes, adding a fun and exciting element to the conference.
The Faculty and Staff Conference provided an opportunity for CPU administrators to share updates, faculty and staff to raise concerns and collaborate, and all members of the CPU family to be reminded of the importance of unity in achieving the university’s goals. By embracing differences and building camaraderie, CPU can continue to strive for excellence and provide a quality education for generations to come.
