Central Philippine University

Through the unanimous vote of the Central Philippine University Board of Trustees and the affirmation of the CPU Corporation during the annual corporation meeting held on April 20, 2018 – CPU President Dr. Teodoro C. Robles will extend his term of service as university president for another five years until November 1, 2023.

Dr. Robles will be serving the university for ten years in November 1, 2018. Among his achievements include strong international linkages with foreign universities namely: Jilin Normal University (Jilin City, China), Zhengzhou University of Industrial Technology (Zhenzhuo City, China), Nihon University (Mishima, Japan), Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry (Vietnam)-Vietnam Internship Program, Toyama University (Japan)
and Hankyong University (South Korea) to name a few. Through his leadership two programs of the College of Hospitality and Management namely Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management and Bachelor of Science in Tourism both garnered Level II status with April 2017 to 2022 validity.

On the other hand, two programs of the College of Arts and Sciences namely Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of Liberal Arts received Level IV status with validity from April 2017 to 2022. On the other hand its program Masters in Public Administration received a Level II status effective December 2016-2019 while the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry got a Level III status with validity from April 2017-2022.

The academic program Masters of Arts in Nursing offered by the College of Nursing and Allied Sciences received Level III status effective December 2016 to December 2021. The Bachelor of Science in Accountancy, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Masters in Business Administration programs of the College of Business and Accountancy got Level IV status with April 2017 to April 2022 validity.

CPU also ranked no. 1 in Western Visayas for the most number of academic programs hailed as Centers of Development and Centers of Excellence based on the list of the Commission on Higher Education for Academic Year 2016-2017 as ranked by LocalPulse. CPU is the only university from Western Visayas to make it in the Top 20, the next university from Western Visayas being West Visayas State University-Lambunao Campus is at number 26.

The results showed that Central Philippine University ranked no. 18 all over the Philippines with 5 points earned from designated 4 academic programs of Central Philippine University namely Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering and Teachers Education as Centers of Development and two academic programs namely Agriculture and Business Administration of the College of Agriculture Resources and Environmental Sciences and College of Business and Management as Centers of Excellence as announced by CHEDRO VI Memorandum No. 001, Series of 2016.

The university also received a total of $28, 200 from the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia for project grants currently being implement by the CPU faculty and staff, the said projects titles include Service Learning Module on Inclusive Education for Elementary Schools, Values Education Module for Teaching and Conduct of Service Learning Seminars, Strengthening University Leadership through Basic Supervisory Training, Capacity Building through Service-Learning for Teacher-Librarians of Iloilo, Antique and Capiz, Institutionalization of Campus Sustainability Program and Promoting Innovative Barangay-level programs and Projects through Service-learning Approach.

Dr. Robles is a 1964 alumnus of the CPU College of Engineering. he was professor at the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he was deeply involved in digital system design, power electronics, microcomputer system design, power systems, analog and digital electronics, and control systems.

Dr. Robles´ specializations are in the fields of research, technology, and education. An advocate of educational reforms, and food security, he is currently President of Association of Private Higher Education Institutions for Western Visayas. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations, and of the Association of Christian Schools, Colleges and Universities and a member of the Iloilo Mission Hospital Corporation.

He has served as research engineer, and engineering faculty at Central Philippine University, Montana State University, Tennessee Technological University, Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, Purdue University School of Engineering & Technology, and Milwaukee School of Engineering.

As co-author or author, his writings have been published by Pergamon Press, McGraw-Hill Book Company, among others. He has presented papers at the American Society for Engineering Education Annual Conference at the University of Utah, Conference on the Engineering Applications of Magnetohydrodynamics at the University of Pittsburgh, and the International Symposium on Plasmadynamics at the University of Texas among others.

He has served as Director of the Applied Industrial Research Institute, Associate Director of the Applied Technology Center at the Milwaukee School of Engineering, and Consultant for the United Nations Development Programme, Department of Science and Technology, Republic of the Philippines, Public Service Company of Indiana, Indianapolis Power & Light Company, and Wisconsin Power Company.

He is a recipient of the Milwaukeee School of Engineering Distinguished Professor Award in 2003, and the Distinguished Centralian Award in 1997.

He completed his BS in Electrical Engineering as a working student at Central Philippine University, his MS and PhD in Electrical Engineering are from Montana State University.

He is married to the former Angeles Antonio, a BSN graduate of Central Philippine University. Their only son Theodore, a PhD graduate of Ohio State University and Assistant Professor at University of California in Los Angeles is msarried to Jennifer Preston. They are blessed with a daughter, Madelyn Kay.

The university looks forward to more breakthroughs and developments under Dr. Robles leadership as Central aims toward greater heights.
