Central Philippine University hosted the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) mandatory training for the municipalities of Leon, Sta. Barbara, and San Miguel from May 18 to 24, 2018 at the 2nd Floor of Henry Luce III Library. CPU is also the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-designated venue for the Mandatory Training of the Jaro District on Thursday, May 24. All incoming SK officials elected during the recent Barangay elections were required by the DILG to attend the mandatory training before they could start serving their respective barangay this year.

The SK mandatory training was meant to orient young barangay leaders on the concept and practice of decentralization in local governance, to learn about the history of the SK, and to be aware of the powers, functions, organization, qualifications, and privileges of being SK officials.

Dr. Florence P. Bogacia, CPU Vice President for Finance and Administration; Prof. Rodel C. Palomar, CPU Human Resource Director; and Dr. Jo Jan Paul Peñol, a former CPUR official, were among the Centralian facilitators and lecturers. Dr. Myrna Luceño, CPU Gonzaga Mansion Manager and Remia F. De la Peña, Coordinator for Center for Local Governance and Indigenous People’s Studies, were co-chairs of the SK mandatory training.
