Third-year BS Biology students receive their symbolic pins during the meaningful Pinning Ceremony, marking their readiness to begin On-the-Job Training and embrace professional responsibilities in the field of biology.
The Department of Life Sciences held a meaningful Pinning Ceremony for third-year BS Biology students in preparation for their On-the-Job Training (OJT) at the Educational Media Center of Central Philippine University (CPU) last April 6, 2026. The event marked a significant transition in the students’ academic journey as they move from classroom-based learning to professional immersion.
The Pinning Ceremony symbolizes a pivotal moment for Bachelor of Science in Biology students, highlighting their readiness to apply scientific knowledge and skills in real-world settings. As they stand on the threshold of their internship, the ceremony affirms their preparedness to take on the responsibilities and challenges of becoming future professionals in the field of biology.
Traditionally regarded as a rite of passage, the ceremony goes beyond the simple act of receiving a pin. The pin itself represents the values, discipline, and competence that students have developed throughout their academic training. It serves as a constant reminder of their commitment to uphold scientific integrity, ethical standards, and professionalism as they enter laboratories, research institutions, healthcare facilities, and environmental organizations.
Faculty members from the Department of Life Sciences led the pinning rites and shared words of inspiration and guidance. Their presence emphasized the vital role of mentorship in shaping competent and responsible biologists. Through their messages, students were reminded that the internship is not merely an academic requirement, but a crucial phase of experiential learning where technical expertise, communication skills, and professional attitudes are strengthened.
The students are set to begin their internship from May 4 to June 18, 2026, across various OJT partner institutions, including medical facilities, research centers, and industry organizations. As they embark on this new chapter, they carry with them not only the knowledge gained from their studies but also the responsibility to represent their institution with excellence and integrity.
