Central Philippine University (CPU) is featured in the April to June 2025 issue of the Western Visayas Bulletin, the official publication of the Regional Development Council (RDC) VI. RDC, or the Regional Development Council, is the highest policy-making body of the region, composed of government agencies and private sector representatives.
The article, which appears on page 11 of the bulletin, highlights CPU’s Community Engagement and Service Learning Center for its commitment to empowering women through livelihood and skills development. At the heart of this initiative is the CPU Tailoring Shop and Training Center, located on the third floor of Johnson Hall, which houses the Assosayon ng Panaad na Pananahi ng Maanahani (APPM).
The trained members, mostly former Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries, now serve as resident workers who sew school uniforms, costumes, curtains, rags, and pillowcases. Operating from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on weekdays, the center primarily serves the CPU community while also accommodating external clients.
The center not only provides a source of livelihood but also acts as a safe space where members support one another emotionally. Each stitched item carries a story of hope, resilience, and community solidarity.
