BLIS and MLIS students of Central Philippine University pose for a group photo during their educational tour across Metro Manila, alongside Mrs. Marilou Binanitan, Director of the Senate Legislative Records and Archives, and their adviser, Prof. Rhea Fernandez.

In a vibrant pursuit of knowledge and hands-on learning, third year Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) and Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) students from Central Philippine University’s College of Computer Studies (CCS) embarked on an educational tour from December 1-4, 2024. Guided by their adviser, Ma’am Rhea Fernandez, and CCS College Dean, Ma. Christina Quijano, the group explored key libraries and archives across Metro Manila to deepen their understanding of the field.

The tour featured visits to prestigious institutions such as the UST Miguel de Benavides Library, Ateneo de Manila Archives, UP Diliman Engineering Library, Quezon City Public Library, Senate Legislative Library, and the Senate Legislative Records and Archives. The students also explored cultural and historical landmarks, including Malacañang Bahay Ugnayan, Malacañang Presidential Museum, the National Library of the Philippines, and the National Museum of Fine Arts.

At each site, students gained valuable insights into library management, archival preservation, and the integration of digital tools into modern information systems. The tour was not just about observing but also about engaging with professionals and learning the nuances of maintaining vast repositories of knowledge.

“Very informative and eye-opening—I learned a lot. Even though it was tiring because we visited many places in a short amount of time, the experience was still enjoyable, especially because of my companions and our adviser, Ma’am Rhea Fernandez, who really made an effort to make this tour memorable,” said Cymon Zambale, a third-year BLIS student.

The educational tour provided a comprehensive overview of the real-world applications of library and information science, equipping students with essential skills and inspiration as they prepare for careers in the ever-evolving field of information management.
