The Professional Regulatory Board of Chemistry, led by Hon. Adoracion P. Resurreccion, visited the CPU Chemistry Department on May 28, 2025, to inspect its laboratory facilities, commending their safety measures, research capability, and hazardous waste management system.
The Professional Regulatory Board of Chemistry (BOC) recently visited the Chemistry Department on May 28, 2025, to inspect the laboratory facilities under the Department as a learning and research unit based on Republic Act 10657 or the Professional Chemistry Law. The visiting group consisted of Hon. Adoracion P. Resurreccion, BOC Chairperson; Hon. Ma. Theresa C. Cayton, BOC Member; and Ms. Mary Grace L. Catalan, PRC Representative.
The Board commended the Chemistry laboratory areas having good ventilation with passive air flow design, and adequate exhaust fans. This is important for the safety of lab personnel, students, and faculty, in the conduct of experiments. The facilities and instruments are adequate in carrying out academic instruction, as well as research. The Board also commended that CPU has a system of managing hazardous wastes, which is followed by the Chemistry Department. With these commendations also comes some important corrective and preventing actions which the Department must work on to further improve its services as a unit offering chemistry laboratory subjects.
The Professional Board of Chemistry is among the 45 Professional Regulatory Boards under the PRC (https://www.prc.gov.ph/professional-regulatory-boards) which exercise administrative, quasi-legislative, and quasi-judicial powers over the practice of the chemistry profession. This includes inspection and certification of a chemical laboratory with respect to its activities, whether conducting chemical analysis for client needs, or for educational purposes.
Hon. Adoracion P. Resurreccion was also part of the joint CHED-PRC Monitoring Group that visited the CPU Chemistry Department and assessed the BS Chemistry Program last October 21, 2010. They reported that the BS Chemistry program of CPU was compliant to CHED CMO No. 18, s.2007, and the Manual of Regulations for Private Higher Education (MORPHE) of 2008.
The participation of the CPU Chemistry Department to the regular monitoring of CHED and PRC reflects its commitment to Exemplary Christian Education for Life as it offers its services to the Centralian community and beyond. To God be the glory!
