Central Philippine University, in collaboration with the Life Sciences Department, hosted a seminar and workshop on biosafety management on April 7, 2025, aimed at strengthening safety practices among science educators in the Philippines.
To strengthen biosafety practices among science educators in the Philippines, Central Philippine University – Review, Continuing Education, and Consultancy Center, in collaboration with the Life Sciences Department, organized an important seminar and workshop focused on biosafety management. Held on April 7, 2025, this academic event reflected the university’s dedication to promoting public health, ensuring laboratory safety, and advancing professional growth in the field of life sciences.
The seminar was held from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the RCEC Conference Room, located in the Uy Building on the CPU campus in Iloilo City. The Department of Life Sciences had formally invited Professor Fernando Christian Jolito III, RMT, CBO, a faculty member and researcher from the Philippine Science High School Western Visayas Campus, to serve as the lead speaker and trainer. His specialized knowledge in Biosecurity, Biorisk, and Laboratory Biosafety Management was anticipated to greatly enrich the session.
The workshop aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge on biosafety protocols, the handling of microbial and biochemical hazards, and basic laboratory management. The event was specifically designed to benefit high school science teachers from the adapted schools of CPU, including: Central Philippine University-Senior High School, Tiu Cho Teg-Ana Ros Foundation Integrated Farm School, Alberto Sorongon Sr. Memorial National High School, Iloilo River Plains Integrated School, and Culasi National High School.
By targeting educators, the workshop seeks to foster a broader understanding and more consistent application of biosafety principles at the grassroots level of education.
CPU believes that Professor Jolito’s contributions will significantly bolster participants’ capacity to implement best practices in biosafety.
Through initiatives like this seminar, Central Philippine University continues to be at the forefront of life sciences education and community outreach. The collaboration with seasoned experts and regional educators underlines a proactive approach to safeguarding health and safety in scientific settings.
