Bicycles were introduced in Europe in the 19th Century. Invented by Baron Karl Von Drais, it was originally called “The Dandy Horse.” According to its description, its rider sat on a wooden or metal frame supported by two in-line wheels which were turned by pedals along the rider’s feet while he navigated the front wheel.

The role of bicycles in our community has progressed throughout the years. More than just a mode of transportation, it has created innovative venues for sports competitions, health improvement and lifestyle development.

Founded on December 8, 2012 by CPU faculty, staff and alumni bike users, C4F also known as Centralian Cruisers Cycling Club and Friends is a bike club open to all Centralian and non-Centralian bikers alike.  Here at CPU, C4F has given bicycles an additional definition – community service.

Advocating a safe, clean and fun environment not only for bikers but for the Ilonggo community as well, they have spearheaded numerous outreach programs that cater to the basic needs of society. This November, the group in partnership with Pavia Bikers and Globe Iloilo held a “Blankets, Pillows and Sandwich Ride” – they gave blankets, pillows and food to street dweller and needy kasimanwas in Iloilo City. Last December 8, 2016, to celebrate their 4th Founding Anniversary the group spearheaded another “Sandwich And Toys Night Ride” – they gave sandwiches, juice and toys to street dwellers and children at Brgy. Monica, Iloilo City Proper.

One of the notable projects of the club is the “Bayanihan sa Daan” – a Presidential Awardee Project. Through the said program helmets and blinkers were given to Centralian students and workers who bike to school advocating safety inside the campus. The group also marshals different events in Iloilo City, as volunteers for safety and security.

C4F continues to serve Centralians and Ilonggos through community projects that encourage people to use their passion in bike riding to serve others. More than just a hobby, biking can be used as an avenue for both personal and community development.

On December 14, 2016 – as part of their advocacy for safety, the group donated four bike racks to the university for the benefit of Centralian bikers. The bike racks will be placed all over CPU for the safety and convenience of bike users.

Biking has physical, social, emotional and environmental benefits. Studies show that biking can cut heart related diseases by 50%, decrease stress levels and improves joint mobility among others. As an environmentally friendly mode of transportation, biking helps decrease carbon footprint and traffic.

A short meet up before going around.

C4F is one of the advocacy groups here in Iloilo that proves that a person who shares his passion with others he can achieve greater heights in helping the community. Once we use what we love to serve others it becomes public service, hand in hand we serve and pursue progress by doing what we love.
