Attendees, along with the BECED Gems, gather for a photo opportunity following the successful two-phase parent education session at Uswag San Isidro Elementary School.
BECED Gems, a newly recognized student organization of the Early Childhood Program of the College of Education, facilitated a two-phase parent education to identified participants of Uswag San Isidro Elementary School in Jaro, Iloilo City. The first phase was conducted on November 22, 2024. The parents were introduced to the importance of early childhood by the BECED Program Chair, Prof. Maristel Decio, followed by a lecture on parenting styles delivered by the Pagtatap Focal Person, Prof. Jorvelyn Jaruda-Espinosa. The second phase was conducted on March 7, 2025, with Prof. Praise Glory, CPU-Kindergarten Principal, as the resource speaker. The lecture focused on the types of discipline, which complemented the topic tackled during the first phase.
BECED Gems recognizes that parenting is crucial in shaping children’s holistic development and overall well-being. The nurturers are significant members of the community who also need support and care. Providing them with the essential knowledge promotes better parental engagement and positive parenting.
“Pagtatap” is in line with the Program ERNEST (Education, Resource Utilization, Nurturance, Environment, Social Welfare, and Technology Transfer) of the Community Engagement Service-Learning Center (CESL). The identified parent-participants were obtained from the results of the September 13, 2024, Community Profiling spearheaded by the College of Education. Uswag San Isidro is one of Central Philippine University’s adopted communities for the period 2024-2029.
