Don’t miss out! Visit the outdoor signage at Halfmoon to find out CPU’s initiative in supporting UN SDGs.
As part of an innovative step towards global sustainability and in celebration of World Environment Day, Central Philippine University has unveiled a series of outdoor signages designed to raise awareness about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) installed at the Half-moon Drive.
The newly established signs, which are in prominent locations across the campus, attribute and feature detailed graphics with concise messages related to each of the 17 SDGs. This includes SDG 1: No poverty, SDG 2: Zero hunger, SDG 3: Good health and well-being, SDG 4: Quality education, SDG 5: Gender equality, SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation, SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy, SDG 8: Decent work and economic growth, SDG 9: Industry, innovation, and infrastructure, SDG 10: Reduced inequalities, SDG 11: Sustainable cities and economies, SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production, SDG 13: Climate action, SDG 14: Life below water, SDG 15: Life on land, SDG 16: Peace, justice, and strong institutions, and SDG 17: Partnership for the goals.
Rev. Dr. Francis Neil G. Jalando-on, Office of Communications Director, initiated the Seeds of Faith series focusing on the said 17 SDGs: “Central Philippine University is proud to support and promote these global goals, recognizing that they align with our Christian values and our commitment to creating a just and sustainable world. Each reflection will delve into one of the 17 SDGs, connecting it with biblical teachings and practical applications for our daily lives.”
This initiative integrates Bible verses that resonate with the principles of the 17 SDGs and aims to deepen the Centralian community’s engagement with both faith and global responsibility.
One example is the verse from Proverbs 9:9, which says, “Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.” This verse has been linked to SDG 4: Quality Education, which emphasizes CPU’s strong commitment to providing exemplary Christian education through empowering Centralians to achieve their dreams and contribute to the betterment of society. “As we reflect on Proverbs 9:9 and the goal of Quality Education, let us renew our commitment to promoting and supporting education in all its forms. Let us value wisdom and continuous learning, empower individuals through access to education, and actively participate in creating opportunities for growth and development.”
In addition, CPU has also initiated a Campus Sustainable Committee, designed to streamline efforts related to environmental sustainability across the university. The said committee is led by its Chairperson, Engr. Aries Roda Romallosa and Co-Chairperson, Engr. Rhett Allan B. Baldonado, together with the following Sub-Committee Chairpersons: Rev. Dr. Francis Neil G. Jalando-on for Corporate Culture, Engr. Jeriel G. Militar for ENERCON/Clean Air, Engr. Alan Grace Tubal for Solid Waste Operations & Chemical Waste, Mr. James E. Estinoco for Solid Waste Management Campaign/Enforcement, Dr. Stella G. Fernandez for Biodiversity, Dr. Dahlia H. Pescos for Wastewater Management, Prof. Ismael A. Almajar, Jr. for Agri/Ecotourism, Engr. Dimpna C. Castigador for Linkagaes/Awards, and Mrs. Jenie-Lou G. Mosqueda for Sustainable Procurement. This initiative serves as a bold step in the institution’s commitment to fostering a more sustainable and eco-friendly campus environment.
CPU’s commitment to the SDGs extends beyond campus by integrating these goals into signage. The Centralian community is setting a testament to how educational institutions can play a pivotal role in global sustainability efforts.
