The Office of International Relations and Cooperation, and the Department of Languages Mass Communication and Humanities in collaboration with Chang Jung Christian University (Taiwan) and Petra Christian University (Indonesia) spearheaded a fireside chat on “Ensuring Christian Presence in the Language of the Classroom in the Era of Online Education” last May 19, 2021.

The program started with an Opening Prayer led by Rev. Francis Neil Jalando-on, Director, CPU Office of Communications. Welcome Remarks were given by CPU President Dr. Teodoro Robles, Chang Jung Christian University Director Dr. Yung Lung Lee, and Petra Christian University Rector Dr. Djwantoro Hardjito. It was then followed by a video presentation of the three universities.

The panel members for the chat were Dr. Hye Kyung Park, Chairperson, Department of Theology, Chang Jung Christian University, Dr. Esther Rose Romarate, Vice- President for Student Affairs Central Philippine University, and Dr. Julia Eka Rini, Head, Master’s Program in Literature Petra Christian University.

During the discussion, the panelists focused on helping academic institutions and teachers reassess their mission and re-evaluate their priorities while learning to navigate technological platforms. They also touched on seeking opportunities and methods in continuing to teach in ways that reflect the presence of Christ in the virtual classroom in this day and age of online learning.

After the discussion proper, three reactors from the participant institutions shared their insights namely: Dr. Su Yu Lan, Chairperson, Dept. of Translation &Interpretation, Chang Jung Christian University, Dr. Ananias Sabijon Jr., Director for Teaching and Learning Excellence, Central Philippine University, and Ms. Herwindy Tedjaatmadja, Head, English Department, Petra Christian University.
