The National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Science and Technology Experts Pool (NSTEP) Visayas successfully conducted the Tapping and Reaching Academic Institutions for NRCP Membership (TRAIN) Campaign, held at the Packaging Technology Resource Center of Central Philippine University on August 27, 2024.
The said campaign brought together prominent academic leaders, researchers, and representatives, aiming to drive increased participation from academic institutions to become members of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP). According to their official website, the organization’s vision is: “By 2033, the National Research Council of the Philippines envisions to be the government entity that creates knowledge, formulates policy, and the prime advisory and consultative body towards sustainable and people-centered development for the nation and the world.” As a fundamental arm of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), this body plays a key role in integrating scientific research and innovation into the nation’s development agenda.
The event began with registration, followed by preliminary activities. The Opening Remarks was delivered by CPU President Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy. The highlights of the event included distinguished speakers who covered a range of topics. Cris Edward F. Monjardin, PhD, Regular Member of the NRCP Division of Engineering and Industrial Research and an Associate Professor at Mapua University, discussed the “Capacity Development Lecture on Technical Writing for Technical Guides.” Kim Glaiza G. Wong, Science Research Specialist II of the NRCP, provided an orientation on NRCP membership, programs, and services. Additionally, Karizza C. Yambao, Science Research Specialist II of the NRCP, thoroughly explained the workshop about NRCP’s membership application process.

The afternoon session featured interactive activities such as mobility exercises, the West Visayas Health Research and Development Consortium Advocacy Campaign, continued discussions on the NRCP Membership Application, and the Technical Guide Writing Workshop. Attendees also had the opportunity to engage with speakers to explore potential research projects and partnerships.
The success of this event shows the evident support of the Centralian community in its growing recognition of the value of research collaboration and institutional networking.
