Selected faculty members from the College of Engineering demonstrated the corn sheller machine to selected corn farmers of Barangay Badiangan, Ajuy, Iloilo.

On June 23, 2025, selected faculty members from the College of Engineering donated a corn sheller machine to selected corn farmers in Brgy. Badiangan, Ajuy. Iloilo. This machine is a thesis output by students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering from previous years.  It is intended to separate the corn kernels from the cob.

The corn sheller, aside from being efficient in removing corn kernels from the cob, also serves several objectives, including increased productivity, reduced post-harvest losses, improved grain quality, livelihood support, feed production, and food production, among others.

This machine also runs the quality assurance of the Department of Agriculture-Western Visayas. According to the agency’s experts, this machine is graded for high efficiency when in use. Before the corn sheller was turned over to the recipient community, the selected faculty and students from the College of Engineering demonstrated how to use the machine.

Approximately three hundred corn farmers (300) may benefit from this corn sheller machine donated by the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Aside from the corn sheller donated by the department, some faculty from the College of Engineering inspected some other projects donated from the area previously.

Notably, the corn sheller machine was fabricated by NEW CANAAN AGRI-MACHINERY SYSTEM INC. and was a project study output by Mechanical Engineering students namely: Francis Elizer R. Fainsol, Ian P. Lee, Jr., Vincent A. Lachica, Luke T. Perez, and Janille Faye H. Otañes.
