The MassComm Circle at the ICC.
On March 17, 2023, the Mass Communication Circle held a media tour for all mass communication students. This activity aims to inspire and educate future media practitioners. Media practitioners include reporters, editors, radio and television show producers, and presenters who work for media organizations as well as freelancers who write articles for media organizations.
MassComm Circle first went to DYRI RMN Radio Station. With the help of RadyoMan Maggie Maleriado, a Centralian, they were able to get exclusive access to the radio station. The students witnessed live radio broadcasting, technical manipulations and many more.
Thresha Marie Gallos said, “To be honest, watching radio broadcast live was my favorite part of the tour. I was amazed and overwhelmed with the ambiance of the newsroom and felt like it was surreal. I realized that I was once just a little girl who listens to news and songs live on radio before, but now I got to witness and experience the room with my two eyes. In addition, I doubt that I would have had the opportunity to learn what it’s like to be an anchorman without the media tour program.”

Chelsea Sermonia said “My favorite part of the media tour is at the RMN Iloilo since we get to witness how they work in the station on a daily basis, and one factor that elated me the most is that it’s actually one of my dream jobs, which is to be a radio anchor. So, it inspired me more to get into the radio broadcasting industry someday.”
Station Manager Ronel Sorbito was in the building together with RadyoMan Novie Guazo to lead the tour. They performed live radio broadcasting in front of the students. After the tour, they gave their advice as well as words of encouragement to the Mass Communication students.
The last destination was in ICC or Iloilo Convention Center. Ms. Charlotte Gadian is a CPU MassComm alumni. She works there and was glad to lead the tour. The students were very pleased to see more behind the Halls of the building. Many may not be familiar with this but there are a lot of rooms inside and not just Hall A, B, C, and D. Ms. Gadian explained the prices, and the man-hours to plan and meet with the client, preparations and expenses.
Lloren Marie Tan said “I plan to be an event organizer in the future. This tour really taught me a lot in terms of event planning, organizing and in search of a good venue. ICC is very much expensive but it is worth it. I would really love to organize my event in a place like this. Hopefully, I will have a budget to afford all of the halls. Ms. Charlotte Gadian was a delight to see since she was our senior. She explained everything thoroughly. Who would’ve thought ICC has a mini museum. It was very interesting and a magical experience. I hope to work there someday.”
The tour ended at 3 PM. The objectives of the tour were met and the students were satisfied at the end of the day.
