Ms. Roselynn Hope F. Cabanos led wellness exercises for parents and teachers at the adopted elementary school to strengthen both physical fitness and mental well-being.
The month of March is recognized as Women’s Month, during which numerous initiatives are organized to honor and highlight the vital role of women in nation-building. In contemporary society, various policies, programs, services, and initiatives have been designed to support and empower women.
At Central Philippine University, the Community Engagement and Service-Learning Center spearheads the CPU-Kahilwayan Women and Development Program. This program is in partnership with the CPU-Gender and Development (GAD) Office, the CPU Review, Continuing Education and Consultancy Center (RCECC), and the CPU-Office of Institutional Advancement (OIA). This outreach initiative aims to address the challenges women face and to design appropriate interventions to support their well-being. The program has been implemented for three years, benefiting women from indigenous peoples’ communities and selected urban areas within the University’s partner communities.
This year, the parents and teachers of the adopted public elementary school, Judith Lazarraga Tiongco Memorial Elementary School, from Brgy. Tabuc Suba and Jaro were the recipients of the program. Based on the results of the community needs assessment, the proponents developed topics focusing on government programs and services for women, women’s mental health, and financial literacy.
A social worker from the Iloilo City Social Welfare and Development Office, Ms. Lenore Enriquez-Ravena, discussed laws protecting women and the programs and services offered by local government units. Meanwhile, Ms. Roselynn Hope F. Cabanos facilitated wellness exercises and shared valuable insights on women’s mental health. Lastly, Dr. Jet R. Nillos delivered a session on financial literacy.
A total of 32 participants, composed of parents and teachers, took part in the CPU- Kahilwayan Women and Development Program this year. Indeed, Central Philippine University remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing the challenges faced by women from all walks of life.
