On February 5, 2025, students from Central Philippine University (CPU) had the incredible opportunity to learn about Hydroponics in an insightful seminar held at Lenwood Edge Building, Room 105. The event featured esteemed speaker Mr. Niel Christian C. Amaca, who shared his expertise on soilless farming, highlighting its advantages for sustainable agriculture and food production.
The seminar, organized by BS Agriculture 4th year students from the College of Agriculture, Resources and Environmental Sciences (CARES), attracted students from Senior High School to College, representing various courses and disciplines. Their eagerness to explore innovative farming techniques was evident as they actively engaged in discussions, asked thought-provoking questions, and broadened their perspectives on modern agricultural practices.
Mr. Niel Christian C. Amaca, guest speaker, receives his certificate of appreciation from Ma’am Hope Patricio (left) and Ma’am Darren Gandas (right), part-time faculty members of CPU CARES, after his insightful talk on hydroponics at CPU.
Mr. Amaca emphasized the efficiency and sustainability of hydroponic systems, illustrating how they can revolutionize food production in urban and rural settings. By eliminating the need for soil, hydroponics allows crops to grow in nutrient-rich water solutions, leading to higher yields and reduced environmental impact. The speaker also discussed the potential of hydroponics in addressing food security challenges, particularly in areas with limited arable land.
Participants expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to gain valuable insights from an expert in the field. Many students noted that the seminar enhanced their understanding of sustainable farming and inspired them to consider hydroponics as a viable agricultural method.
The success of this seminar was made possible through the enthusiastic participation of students and the dedication of organizers who aimed to provide meaningful learning experiences beyond the classroom. As CPU continues to foster educational initiatives, students can look forward to more events that promote innovation and sustainability in various fields.
