Participants attentively listen to the morning session of the OSH Training on Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Control (HIRAC) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) at the Educational Media Center on September 4, 2025.

On September 4, 2025, the Human Resource Development Office (HRDO), in collaboration with the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Office, conducted training sessions on Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Control (HIRAC), Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH). Held at the Educational Media Center, the morning session was attended by Unit Heads and staff from low-risk offices, while the afternoon session was participated in by identified staff personnel.

The session opened with a prayer led by Rev. Dr. Cris Amorsolo V. Sian, Senior Pastor of the University Church, followed by welcome remarks from Dr. Darril F. Pamocol, Officer-in-Charge of the HRD Office. In his message, Dr. Pamocol warmly welcomed the participants and underscored the significance of the training, noting that he himself was also attending as a participant.

The four-hour training was facilitated by Prim C. Vergara III, CPU’s Occupational Safety and Health Officer, who emphasized the twofold objectives of the seminar: to comply with the law-mandated requirement for safety training in workplaces and to conduct job hazard analysis in line with the University’s hazard pay policy.

Prim C. Vergara III, CPU’s Occupational Safety and Health Officer 4, discusses Republic Act No. 11058 and related safety regulations during the morning session of the OSH Training at the Educational Media Center on September 4, 2025.

Vergara also presented the legal frameworks guiding workplace safety, including Republic Act No. 11058, or the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act; Department Order No. 198, Series of 2018; and Department Order No. 252, Series of 2025, also known as the Revised Implementing Rules on Occupational Safety and Health in the Philippines.

As part of the output, every unit was assigned to fill out a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) form, which consists of five key components: Job Task Breakdown, Potential Hazard (Safety/Health Hazard), Effect of Hazard to Worker, Control Method (Hazard Control).

An open forum followed the lecture, where participants raised concerns and clarifications on workplace safety and hazard analysis. Questions were addressed by Prim C. Vergara III and Dr. Florentino P. Alerta II, Chairperson of CPU’s OSH Committee.

In the afternoon, a mandatory session on Occupational Safety and Health was also conducted, which was attended by identified staff personnel. This session reinforced the morning discussions and provided further guidance on implementing hazard identification and risk control measures in their respective units.

The training sessions formed part of CPU’s continuing efforts to strengthen its workplace safety culture, ensuring compliance with national standards while safeguarding the health and welfare of its employees.
