NGU students engaged in their first lesson at Central Philippine University, marking the start of their ESL journey.

On February 12, 2025, Japanese students from Nagoya Gakuin University (NGU) officially began their English as a Second Language (ESL) training at Central Philippine University (CPU). Their first class took place at the CPU-Henry Luce III Library, marking the start of an enriching language-learning experience.

The ESL program is facilitated by CPU through the Local and International Linkages & Affiliations Center (LILAC) as part of its ongoing commitment to international collaboration. NGU has consistently sent students to CPU due to the university’s high educational standards and well-structured language programs. This initiative aims to strengthen the academic and cultural ties between the two institutions.

Before attending their first class, the visiting students had the opportunity to meet Rev. Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy, University President, in his office. They were also given a campus tour, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the university’s vibrant learning environment.

The ESL classes are conducted in the IELTS Rooms of the Henry Luce Library, where the students were warmly welcomed by their instructors, Miss Jesselle Articulo and Miss Alyssa Hope Joyce Trespecios. The session began with engaging self-introductions, during which students shared their names, majors, hobbies, and life mottos. The teachers also briefed them on the diagnostic exam scheduled for the following day.

The language training program will run until March, equipping students with essential communication skills and enhancing their proficiency in English. Through this initiative, CPU continues to demonstrate its dedication to global education, fostering cultural exchange, and providing valuable learning opportunities for international students.

As CPU and NGU further strengthen their academic partnership, this ESL training not only enhances students’ language skills but also promotes cross-cultural understanding and collaboration. The program reflects CPU’s unwavering commitment to excellence and its role in shaping globally competent individuals.
